When we reached Epsilon 5 we'd discovered the inhabitants lived in towering villages. While the people were technologically advanced, Epsilon 5 was not a passive landscape. The land and sea had a consciousness that we did understand. Something we had never encountered before. The planet itself made choices. An entire landscape would change overnight. It 'absorbed' things it did not approve of. While we came to bargain with the inhabitants of Epsilon 5, we should have come to bargain with Epsilon 5 itself.
