The Apples? They Are Very Close To The Tree

Yesterday, Digital Orc posted a heartwarming post about a day with his young daughter, entitled The Value of Old School. It reminded me of similar days when my children were young and all the common memories we have of our adventures together.

My children are now adults. My son is 23 years old and working like a dog as a Director of Marketing while my daughter just turned 21 last week. We are all about two hours apart most of the time, so we share most of our adventures via texts and Facebook. Some of their recent pics serve as a reminder that the apples ended up right next to the tree.

It is groovy how each of my kiddoes picked up one the major aspects of my personality. I would not love them any less if they hadn't, but it does make it fun when my son and daughter are both interested in some of same things as I am.

Wanted: Nerdy Tee Shirt Ideas

We start our gift shopping early in my family and my daughter, a college student, decided that she wants "nerdy tee shirts" for Christmas. I thought I would solicit tee shirt gift ideas from all of you. So, if you know of any funny nerdy tee shirts or hoodies, let me know. My daughter is into gaming (both table-top RPGs and video games), Dr. Who, and comic books (particularly X-Men).

"Exploring Comics"--A Chip Off The Old Blog

My celebration of Swords & Wizardry this week has been interrrupted by some long long work days. However, my daughter has come to the rescue by creating her own blog, Exploring Comics. She started it as a college class assignment, but I am hoping she continues as it is a very good blog. I remember our first trip together to the comic book store and the immediate addiction to Spidergirl (you can read about Spidergirl on her blog).

Being the Cool Dad Once Again (Thanks, D&D Next)

I was a playtester during the opening rounds of D&D Next playtesting. It turns out that the best outcome of my D&D Next playtesting is that I am now the Cool Dad among my daughter's college friends (they are the Dr. Who crowd at her university).. I am well aware that the Cool Dad title lasts but a short while. I was the Cool Dad with my son's friends for span of time, thanks to playing in a couple of rock bands. But the coolness wears off quickly when you have to say Read Dad stuff like "Get a job" or "You'll put an eye out" or "Eat all of your brussel sprouts" or "Holy Crap, your girlfriend is hot!" or "The UPS man is your biological father, ask him to cosign your student loan documents." Yes, I know something will happen along the way that will bring shame to my children and I will just be regular Dad again. But I will enjoy the Cool Dad title while it lasts.
