New Battle Axe

Last night I have my first gig with my new battle axe, a Carvin PB5. I will be out playing music again tonight. It was custom-ordered so it took about 3 months for it to arrive. It was worth the wait.

  1. Handsome instrument -- how common is a 5-string bass?

    1. They are not rare by any means. Oddly enough the two plays you find 5 string basses are death metal and smooth jazz. I have two 5 strings and 2 four string basses. They are nice when playing with a keyboard, because of the extra low notes (particularly when playing in the key of G). I can also play up higher on the neck and still have some lower notes available without shifting my left hand...the main reason most people use a 5 string.

  2. Congrats on getting your bass. Good thing you didn't get it from a Kickstarter or you'd still be receiving updates of how bad the weather is, pictures of cut hands or worse yet...nothing.

    1. I'd have to pay extra as the various stretch goals are: Painted body on bass; attached neck; pickups; wiring; and tuners. Of course, they ran of money and couldn't get artists, so I ended up with an artless PDF bass instead of actual hardwood bass.
